BIG Architects: Paving the Future

Bjarke Ingels Group, or BIG, is a Danish architecture firm led by founding partner Bjarke Ingels. They have again peaked our interests since being featured in Landscape Invocation’s St Pete Pier Finalist post last month.

After a submission for Audi’s Urban Future Initiative design competition last year, BIG shows us their Smart Streets of the future. From the Art Basel Miami Beach Design Show.

The interactive pavement reads like an animated carpet. LED’s set with sensors technology and intuitive processing allows free flowing movement, void of physical barriers and curbs. This idea is intrinsically tied to Audi’s A2 Concept Car, which communicates with the surrounding environment and pavement.

Kind of exciting to think we might not have to ride around in the Minority Report rail cars.
