The UK has recently announced that when the 2012 London Olympic games are complete,  the land will be transformed into the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. After the end of the games the park will be closed and reopened in 2013.

Via Inhabitat: Rt Hon Hunt MP said: “It is a great honour that Her Majesty The Queen has given her consent to name the Park the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park after the Games. Her Majesty has been supportive of London 2012 for the start and with the event taking place in her Diamond Jubilee year, it is fitting that the Park bears her name.

The 2012 Games are being touted as the “greenest Olympics ever.”
